Mark Humphery-Jenner is an Associate Professor of Finance at UNSW Business School in Sydney. His work sits at the intersection of corporate finance and law.
Research
Mark’s research examines how governance, regulation and managerial behaviour shape corporate decisions and value. Recurring themes include:
- Executive overconfidence and its effect on compensation, repurchases, securities litigation and divestitures.
- Mergers, acquisitions and takeover regulation, including the role of private equity in cross-border deals and the effect of takeover defences on innovation.
- Private equity and venture capital, including fund diversification, government investment in venture funds, and the development of China’s venture markets.
- Law and finance, including securities class actions, the readability of financial reports, misinformation regulation and accredited-investor rules.
His articles have appeared in the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Review of Finance, the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Corporate Finance and the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies, among others. He has also written books on venture capital and private equity, regression analysis, econometrics and valuation.
